Explored: The Prabhupada Samadhi building within the Iskcon temple premises started showing signs of structural vulnerabilities (visible cracks) in the floor slab and overhanging beams. IIT Delhi referred Livehooah to find the root cause of the problem.
Analyzed: It was discovered that Iskcon’s devotees moved in a synchronized manner during “Hare Krishna” kirtans. The synchronized movement caused the floor vibrations to resonate with the natural frequency of cracks.
Measured: Growth rate of existing cracks and deflections
Decision: Livehooah provided important feedback allowing Iskcon’s management team to immediately stop movements on the floor slab (First Floor) immediately and take speedy action. This helped them in the prevention of loss of life, irreparable damage and large retrofitting cost.
